Electrician profession

The profession of an electrician is always in demand and at the same time extremely dangerous. We talk about what the people of this profession are doing and how to get it.

An electrician is a specialist who installs, maintains, and repairs power supply systems, communication networks, electrical circuits, lighting systems, and electrical equipment control, electrical appliances.

To become an electrician, you need to have knowledge of physics, algebra, and geometry. It is also useful to have drawing skills – this subject can be taught in schools as an elective. Basic knowledge will be enough to become an ordinary electrician. But if you have a dream to engage in highly qualified work, including scientific work, you need to think about getting an education as an electrical engineer.

Working on it requires calmness from a person, well-considered decisions, and increased attention to detail. It is unacceptable that a professional, standing on a step-ladder and short-circuiting the wires, suddenly undergoes a panic attack and doubts: “Am I doing everything right?” Balance, clear perception of reality, good memory – that’s what is expected. This profession is not replete with creativity, bright colors, reflection. This is serious technical work.

Specializations

When employing, three factors are taken into account: his specialization, his category, and the admission group.

An employee’s specialization depends, first, on his education. Secondly, from the sphere, the direction of activity. Based on these parameters, the following specializations can be distinguished:

To become an electrician, you need to get an education at a college or university, have a basic knowledge of high-voltage equipment, and have 1-2 months of experience with such equipment. Electricians work with objects of different levels of danger, depending on the length of service, category.

Locksmith electrician (for example, for the repair of electrical equipment). To work in such a specialty, a person must receive at least a secondary vocational education and undergo a training program for skilled workers, refresher courses. Also, a professional electrician must be able to independently provide first aid. If the conditions are met, then the electrician for the repair of electrical equipment is allowed to disassemble the devices, clean them, check the condition of the device parts for damage and match their parameters to the requirements, replace the device parts and assemble the devices.

Electrical Engineer. You can wear this proud title if you have a university diploma in a specialty related to energy. Such a specialist knows all the subtleties of working with electrical equipment, knows the schemes of their device, is able to design equipment. The electrical engineer also trains other employees in the company on how to work with electrical appliances. An experienced electrical engineer with proper discharge is admitted to objects with a high level of danger.

Ranks and groups

There are qualification categories in the profession of an electrician: from I to VI. The categories are assigned to professionals depending on their experience and level of training. Also, there are five groups of electrical safety admission. The admission group is determined taking into account professional experience, level of education, and skills that are developed by a specialist.

The first group includes professionals who do not work directly with electricity but perform their duties next to dangerous devices. Electricians with the second and third groups of admission work with electrical installations with voltages up to 1000 V. Specialists who have just started their professional path belong only to the second group. The fourth and fifth groups are awarded to electrical engineers, managers. Admission groups are assigned to specialists with higher education or many years of professional experience.

pros

The main advantages of the profession of an electrician are its relevance and relevance in any area since we use electricity everywhere. An electrician is needed in every private enterprise, in every government institution, when servicing apartments and houses, in shops. A good electrician is simply irreplaceable. Other pluses:

  • development of logic and fine motor skills in the process of activity. An electrician has to keep in his head a lot of information and knowledge about physics in general and the nature of electricity in particular, and build the logic of actions based on them. And working with wires and other elements of electrical networks develops fine motor skills of the hands.
  • the opportunity to work both for hire, in the structure of the organization, and privately, providing individual services. Many electricians choose to combine the two types of employment, thereby increasing their income.

Minuses

The first and main disadvantage of the profession of an electrician is danger. The work of this specialist is always associated with high voltages, and the non-observance of strict safety measures is fraught. If an electrician is not familiar with the precautions or ignores them, electric shock or fall from height is possible.

The second disadvantage is predominantly low wages. Although the level of salary depends on professional experience, category, group, place of work.
